Hillary Unveils Plan to Find Cure for Breast Cancer

by Lindsay Levin
4/7/2008 10:50:02 AM

Hillary Clinton appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today and announced her plan to find a cure for breast cancer within our lifetime.  Hillary’s plan would provide $300 million a year in increased funding for breast cancer research at the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute, and the Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program.

In addition to funding research for new treatments, these investments will also go to investigate the cause of breast cancer, including the role that environmental pollutants may have, as well as, potential genetic and hereditary links.  The plan would also improve access to screenings and treatment by making mammograms more affordable and providing funding for treatment for low-income women.  Under Hillary’s American Health Choices Plan, all women will have affordable, quality health insurance regardless of employment, marital status, or pre-existing conditions so they get the care and treatment they need.

“I know your mom is a survivor, and we've lost my incredible mother-in-law to breast cancer during Bill's first term and first year in office, and I've just been really committed.  I've had so many friends, and we all know people who survived and people who haven't.  And I just think we should set a goal of curing breast cancer within the next decade,” said Clinton on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.  “We should make it absolutely totally curable, and I also really want to try to figure out what causes it, because we just don't know why some people are susceptible.  I think it's probably a combination of your genes and your environment and your behavior, but we don't know quite how all that fits together and we haven't done enough research, and we also have to get to universal healthcare, which means quality, affordable healthcare for everyone.”

The plan would also improve access to screenings and treatment.  Hillary’s plan will eliminate Medicare co-pays for mammograms to make them more affordable for 22 million women and guarantee breast and cervical cancer treatment to every low-Income Woman in America. She will also establish a new Racial Disparities Research Project to coordinate and disseminate cutting edge research on the impact of breast cancer among African-American and Hispanic women and guide the federal research agenda towards closing these gaps in outcomes.  In addition, Hillary will create a Young Women’s Breast Cancer Research and Outreach Unit to help educate young women about the risks of breast cancer, develop more effective screening tools and treatments, and to help research and respond to the unique emotional needs facing young women with breast cancer.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers facing women in America.  In 2008, an estimated 180,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among women, as well as an estimated 60,000 additional cases of in situ breast cancer, for a total of 240,000 new cases.  In 2007, approximately 40,460 women died from breast cancer. Only lung cancer accounts for more cancer deaths in women.  Millions more are impacted as family members and friends of women who are battling breast cancer.

Hillary Clinton has a long history of working to address breast cancer.  As First Lady, Hillary worked to make breast cancer a national priority by helping to direct the creation of a public-private partnership called the National Action Plan on Breast Cancer (NAPBC).  Throughout the Clinton Administration, the NAPBC served as a catalyst for national efforts to advance breast cancer knowledge, research, policy, and services.  Hillary was also a strong voice for more investment in cancer research, advocating successfully for a significant increase in federal funding for breast cancer research. By the end of President Clinton's term, federal funding for breast cancer had been increased to over $600 million.  She also supported a new 45 cent first class stamp, the Breast Cancer Stamp, which provides revenue to support breast cancer research at the National Institutes of Health and the Defense Department.  She conducted listening sessions with older women to better understand why some women weren’t getting mammograms, taped public service announcements, and ultimately launched a Medicare Mammography Campaign to ensure that more women took advantage of this essential diagnostic tool.  She also pushed for the successful enactment of the Medicaid Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Program, which provides screening and treatment to low-income women – those with limited, if any, options for obtaining quality care.  This life-saving program is serving 34,000 women each year.  And she pushed for the enactment of the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act, which allows women to stay in the hospital at least 48 hours following a mastectomy.

As Senator, Hillary Clinton co-sponsored the Breast Cancer and Environmental Research Act, which gives the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences grant-making authority to develop research centers that examine potential environmental causes of breast cancer.  She also brought the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee to Adelphi University in June 2001 for a field hearing on the possible links between environmental contamination and cancer, especially high-incidence breast cancer “clusters” like the one on Long Island.

In May 2005, Senator Clinton was inducted into the National Breast Cancer Coalition's Congressional Hall of Fame for her work increasing breast cancer awareness and research funding.

This agenda below lays out the steps Hillary will take as President to elevate this disease to a pressing national priority:

The Challenge

Tragically, breast cancer remains the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women.

A woman living in the U.S. has a one in eight lifetime risk of developing breast cancer, up from one in 11 in the 1970s. Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer death among Hispanic women. African American women have a higher incidence rate than white women before age 40 and are more likely to die from breast cancer at every age. Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women ages 15 to 54.  About one percent of all breast cancer occurs in men.

Hillary’s Plan

  • Set a big goal of finding a cure in our lifetime.  Studies show that most young women don’t believe it will be possible to find a cure in their lifetime.  Hillary wants to shatter that myth.  With the significant investments she is planning to make in research, we should be able to make much more dramatic progress in identifying the causes, developing and identifying the most effective treatments, and ultimately, finding a cure.  By setting a big goal, Hillary will provide national leadership on breast cancer, help leverage additional action across the country, and make clear that fighting this disease will be a top priority when she is President.

  • Invest in the Research.  Finding a cure will require ramping up our commitment to research. That is why as President, Hillary will:

    • Double the NIH and National Cancer Institute budgets, Expand NCI Cancer Centers, and Establish a Best Practices Institute. We have made great strides in the fight against breast cancer in recent years.  For example, we’ve learned that breast cancer isn’t just one disease, and as treatments are improving breast cancer survivors are living longer.  Still, we have a long way to go.  We still don’t know what causes breast cancer or the best ways to treat it.  As President, Hillary will double the budgets of the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and ensure that every American lives within the service area of a NCI Cancer Center.  She will also establish a new Best Practices Institute – which would work as a partnership between the existing Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the private sector – to fund medical research and disseminate that information to Americans and health care professionals to increase quality and reduce costs. This institute will investigate breast cancer treatments and spread information across the country on the most effective treatments to reduce disparities.  Through all of these investments, we will be able to significantly expand the number of clinical trails that are ongoing, which will enable us to accelerate the pace of research.  In addition, Hillary will ask the NIH and the NCI to report on their progress to the President each year.

    • Double the Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs.  The Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program provides innovative, high-impact, cutting-edge research aimed at eradicating breast, ovarian, and prostate cancer and other diseases.  Since this program was enacted, over $2 billion in breast cancer research funding has awarded and 4,000 breast cancer research grants have been granted.

    • Enact the Breast Cancer Environmental Research Act and Expand Environmental Research.  As President, Hillary will enact the Breast Cancer and Environmental Research Act, legislation that is essential to building the NIH-funded research centers that will investigate the links between environmental pollutants and breast cancer. Every year we learn more about the connections between the environment and disease, and by pushing forward on this front, this legislation will ultimately allow us to predict much earlier who will acquire breast cancer and to eliminate the pollutants that increase the risk for women who are exposed.  This legislation will also allow us to develop and implement a much-needed comprehensive strategy for breast cancer research.

    • Research the Genetic and Hereditary Causes of Breast Cancer.  We now have the scientific capability to better understand genetically caused breast cancer through advances in mapping of the human DNA.  This is the first generation that can choose to utilize this advance in technology to cure cancer.  When changes called “mutations” occur in certain genes, certain cells can grow out of control and cause cancer. Women who carry the genetic markers BRCA1 and BRCA2 are at a greater risk for developing breast cancer.  Hillary will provide targeted funding to the National Cancer Institute for research in this area that will help to develop specialized treatment and screenings for women who are known to carry these genetic markers and have a family history of breast cancer.

    • Continue the Breast Cancer Research Stamp.  The breast cancer research stamp costs $.55 and by law, 70 percent of the net amount raised from the stamp goes to the National Institutes of Health, and 30 percent goes to the Medical Research Program at the Department of Defense for breast cancer research grants. Since 1998, it has provided $55.5 million for breast cancer research.  The stamp has to be reauthorized every two years.  Hillary is committed to maintaining the stamp throughout her administration.

  • Eliminate Medicare co-pays for mammograms to make them more affordable for 22 million women.  Twenty-two million women – one in five adult women – depend on Medicare for basic health care.  These women pay no coinsurance for most cancer screening services covered by Medicare, but they must pay a 20 percent co-pay for mammography services.  Hillary Clinton wants to break down this barrier and make mammograms available to all women free of charge.  Mammograms generally cost between $50 and $150; co-pays range from $10 to $30.  Leading experts, the National Cancer Institute, the American Cancer Society, and the American College of Radiology all recommend annual mammograms for women over 40.

  • Guarantee Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment to Every Low-Income Woman in America.  The Medicaid Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Program provides enhanced matching funds to states to cover the cost of medical assistance through Medicaid to uninsured or underinsured women screened and diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer.  Prior to the creation of the program, many women diagnosed with breast cancer were falling through the cracks. In 21 states, women were only permitted to receive treatment, once diagnosed with the disease, if they had been diagnosed at a CDC-sponsored clinic.  Women diagnosed with breast cancer at a clinic down the street from a CDC-funded clinic were being systemically denied care.  As President, Hillary will require that states serve everyone who qualifies, and she will provide the funding to enable states to realize this promise.  She will work with Congress to accomplish this goal within the first year of her presidency.  This will be an interim solution before universal health care is enacted.

  • Employ Targeted Strategies to Address the Needs of Disproportionately Affected Populations.  Breast cancer is a complex disease that affects different populations differently.  As President, Hillary will:

    • Establish a New Racial Disparities Research Project – African-American women have a higher breast-cancer mortality rate than white women have, and breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among Hispanic women.  Science is beginning to point to biological differences in tumors that may account for some of these differences. We know that triple negative breast cancer – cancers that don’t have receptors for oestrogen, progesterone, or Her2 and therefore are not responsive to some of the typical breast cancer treatments – is more aggressive and is found more often in African-American women.  Hillary is committed to understanding these complexities while also identifying and addressing the disparities in timely access to screening and treatment for underserved populations.  Hillary will establish a new Racial Disparities Research Project to coordinate and disseminate cutting edge research on the impact of breast cancer among African-American and Hispanic women and guide the federal research agenda towards closing these gaps in outcomes.

    • Create a Young Women’s Breast Cancer Research and Outreach UnitBreast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among women ages 15 to 54.  The disease appears to be more aggressive in younger women, but the major screening tool – a mammogram – isn’t as precise at detecting abnormalities since younger women’s breasts are more dense.  Young women diagnosed with breast cancer also struggle with many unique issues, such as the possibility of early menopause, pregnancy after diagnosis, more advanced cancer at diagnosis and slightly higher mortality rates.  As President, Hillary will create a Young Women’s Breast Cancer Research and Outreach Unit to help educate young women about the risks of breast cancer, develop more effective screening tools and treatments, and to help research and respond to the unique emotional needs facing young women with breast cancer.

  • Guarantee access to affordable, quality health care for all.  Uninsured adult women are significantly less likely than those with private insurance to receive screenings – like mammograms, clinical breast exams and pap smears – that increase the chance of catching diseases early and decreasing mortality rates.  African-American and Hispanic women are at particularly high risk of not receiving these screenings.  When caught in the first stages, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer is 98 percent; if the cancer moves into more advanced stages, the survival rate is only 26 percent.  Health insurance greatly increases one’s chances of getting screened.

Many women who are diagnosed with breast cancer have health insurance when they are diagnosed.  Over time, as they get sicker, they lose their job and with it, their health insurance. Those who have lost their job, have a harder time affording COBRA.  And once they’ve transitioned off their former employer’s health insurance, their breast cancer becomes a preexisting condition, and they are often priced out of the individual market.  Even getting placed on their spouses’ policy can be challenging once they’ve been diagnosed.  In addition, older women sometimes lose their health insurance when their husbands retire, and if they are not yet old enough to enroll in Medicare, they may have no alternative.  Many young women suffer from not having health insurance if they leave their job to stay home with their young children, change jobs, or work at an entry level job that may not offer health insurance.  Since older women are at a higher risk of getting breast cancer and younger women are often diagnosed at a later stage than their older counterparts, these years of going without coverage can have devastating consequences.

Under Hillary’s American Health Choices Plan, all women will have affordable, quality health insurance regardless of employment, marital status, or pre-existing conditions.  Insurance companies will no longer be able to discriminate against people on the basis of pre-existing or genetic conditions, age, gender, occupation or other risk factors.  And insurance companies will have to renew plans for enrollees who have paid their premiums on time and want to remain enrolled.  The American Health Choices Plan will make prevention and wellness top priorities in the U.S. health care system. All plans in the new Health Choices Menu will have to meet high quality standards that experts deem proven and effective, including preventive care, such as regular physician visits, and screenings, like mammograms.

Commitment to Fiscal Responsibility: This plan will provide $300 million annually in additional funding for research on breast cancer.  Hillary will achieve and finance this plan as part of her commitment to doubling NIH and basic research in major federal agencies, as well as her plan to achieve universal healthcare.

  • Hey Everyone--Check this out!!

I found this interesting information on Rasmussen Reports regarding what this primary race would look like for Hillary and Obama if the democrats used a "Winner take all" system in awarding delegates. The link is:

    • Please call PA voters, we need to win big 85%...Please remember to donate too!!!

      All Hillary fans,

Please make calls to PA. Go to hillary's site and start calling. Just make 5-10 calls and see for yourself, the % in poll doesn't add up. The % based on the people I speak with who are sure of their votes is at least 60% Hillary, 40% bo.
But there are a number of undecideds and leaning one way or another voters out there who need a call!

      http://tools.hillaryclinton.com/calling/

I agree, the race has definitely been fixed and there isn't much we can do about it other than donate and call. All we can do is trust that Ickes and Bill Clinton will make sure all that can be done, will be done, to get Senator Clinton nominated.

Right now though we need to call PA voters and give money if we can. PA voters are very polite and I haven't had a rude response yet. PLEASE CALL PA!!

I don't think for the most part these voters are getting their info from the internet or blogs or late night cable news. They read the local papers and watch the local evening news. We need to call them to get them to know that Senator Clinton IS the best person for this job!!

See poll Hillary beats McCain in Florida while Obama loses to McCain

Cindy I so appreciate reading all of the Hillary bloggers. I get so depressed after listening to CNN. I feel as if the media has chosen our President this time, and not the Supreme Court. We, the voters, will not choose this President unless something drastic happens to turn this around. My husband and I are delegates for Senator Clinton in June at our State Convention. Please, all of you bloggers, keep up the good work in helping me to keep my faith. We not only love Hillary, but we NEED her, desperately!

I think Hillary and Harlod Ford Jr would make a dream team.  I voted for him for the senate from Tennessee unfortuntly he didnt get it .  He appeared  to have all the right answers.   I believe he would be a big asset to Hillarys campaign. Please cheack it out Hillary.  I know you are the president we need  but there are so many distractions it takes away from all of the important things you stand for.  America needs you and Harold Ford Jr. think it over please.  Busfive in Tennessee

          • Dream Ticket NOW!

I just read this about Harold Ford, Jr. and I agree! I heard him speak in Greeneville, Tennesse. He is intelligent, young, has great ideas, wants the right kind of CHANGE backed with action and not just words and if Hillary would choose him and choose him right now, Obama would not stand a chance. Hillary, if you have not considered this, please do so and you will find that there are a lot of other people who agree with me. Go ahead now and pick him, run with him at your side and you will see great things happen for your campaign. My parents and my husband both agree that a Clinton / Ford ticket would really be hard to beat!

        March 24, 2008

        It has happened four times.

Does the person with the most money ALWAYS win the presidential nomination?
        January 11, 2008

No. The biggest money-raisers are beaten fairly regularly. Just ask Howard Dean.

I know what your're going through but hang in there; you're making the best decision for America.

Keep your financial support a coming:)

What is Hillary going to do about the rising gas prices. We suffer while Exxon and government officials don't have to worry about paying for gas with their Billion dollar profits and hefty salaries.

      Florida Democrats for Hillary

by saren at 4/7/2008 2:20:51 PM

      • The Democratic nominating system is undemocratic

Yes, ironically, if it were winner take all, Hillary would win hands down. However, the system that is in place is not democratic. One can get 51% of the popular vote, but not get the delegate count as happened with Nevada. Hillary won the state. She got 10 delegates and Obama got 11. Now, there is something wrong with a system that allows for that to happen. As we all know, Hillary won Texas, but lost the delegate count since Obama won that dreaded caucus. Caucus system is undemocratic also. Most caucuses are held at night when so many people are working, especailly blue collar workers. That means a minority of the states voters rule. Caucuses are also not secret ballot. In a caucus, and Texas is the perfect example, one to two percent of the electorate can dictate who gets the delegates. The system is killing Hillary. So, for those who say that winning via the super delegates is not democratic since it is not the will of the people better take a serious look at the system itself.

      • Superdelecates

I think superdelegates should vote on the basis of electbility. As far as I see, if Hillary is the norminee the DNC stand a better chance of winning the White House, because she has a commanding lead in all the states that matter. Hope that they would look not only at the popular vote but also at which candidate can beat John McCain in the General election. I am very sorry to say this, but senator obama due to his hostile attitude towards the revotes in Michican and Florida, has made himself very unpopular. As a result of his selfishness he has lost votes that possibily would have gone for him, if he would have agreed to the revote. He would have look much better in the eyes of the American people. What a shame that he lost out on this opportunity.

Friday April 11, there will be a protest in NYC about the FL & MI vote. (http://www.hillaryclintonforum.net/april11/)

Would anyone be interested in joining me at the FL state capital at the same time.

        Media can't ignore numerous protests.

        • a big rally

I have been saying this all along. If you want Mich and Fla seated then we should organize a big rally in front of the DNC in Washington. Imagine at least 10,0000 people coming together and yelling in sync, seat our delegates? There could even be speakers. That would certainly bring lots of media. This will shame the DNC. Is a rule more important than the will of the people?

    • Rasmussen

The link to Rasmussen doesn't work.  Interesting statistic but meaningless since those aren't Democratic rules.

Be careful with statistics.  You seem to be suggesting that if it was winner-take-all and Hillary was ahead 120 delegates then the race should be over.  Under the current rules Obama is ahead 170 and the race is still on.

HERE IS A GOOD SOLUTION TO OUR HEALTH CARE NEEDS HERE IN THE USA

WHY DOES`NT THE GOVERNMENT GIVE FREE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR DOCTORS AND NURSES

PAY FOR THEIR SCHOOL BUT!!!!! THEY ARE REQUIRED TO WORK IN HOSPITALS AND CLINICS FOR A SET NUMBER OF HOURS A WEEK FOR FREE FOR SAY MAYBE 5 YEARS OR FOR AS LONG AS THEY ATTENDED SCHOOL. IF THEY DON’T COMPLY THEN THEIR MEDICAL LICENSE IS PULLED OR THEY HAVE TO PAY BACK THEIR TUITION  AND SCHOOL COST INCURRED FOR THEIR EDUCATION.

BUT THIS WOULD ONLY BE OPEN TO US CITIZENS ONLY

THE GOVERNMENT THEN CAN PROVIDE HEALTHCARE FOR A WHOLE LOT MORE PEOPLE AT AN INCREDIBLE SAVINGS

THIS WOULD INCLUDE NURSES, DRS. ,  SURGEONS SPECIALISTS,

EITHER GIVE THEM A SMALL SALARY OR LET THEM TAKE PATIENTS AT THEIR OWN PRACTICE.(A REQUIRED AMOUNT OF FREE MEDICAL CARE WOULD BE REQUIRED)

WE THE PEOPLE WOULD HAVE BETTER HEALTHCARE AND IM SURE A LOT OF TALENTED PEOPLE OUT THEIR WHO ARE CRUSHED BY THE COST OF A DRS. EDUCATION AND NEVER EVEN ATTEMPT TO PURSUE IT WOULD LINE UP AT THE CHANCE. IT WOULD BE AWARDED BY GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS. WITH US CITIZENSHIP THE ONLY REQUIREMENT AND MEETING SET SCHOLASTICAL STANDARDS. AND MORAL STANDARDS.

AND THE DR`S WONT HAVE TO PAY STUDENT LOANS BACK (LIKE THE GOVERNMENT GETS ANY OF IT BACK ANYWAY) SO IT’S A WIN WIN WIN SITUATION.

WE GET DRS,  DRS GET THE EDUCATION , AND THE GOVERNMENT IS ASSURED OF A RETURN ON ITS INVESTMENT,(WHICH IS`NT SOMETHING WE SEE VERY OFTEN.)

IT’S A VERY SIMPLE SOLUTION TO AN EXTREMELY SERIOUS AND GROWING PROBLEM.

ANOTHER REASON HILLARY SHOULD BE PRESIDENT

This almost made me cry. I saw most of the presidential candidates last year at Lance Armstrongs Cancer Forum( Obama did not attend). I think this is one of the more important struggles of our lifetime, and about time we had someone take this stance.

I am a Breast Cancer and Lung Cancer survivor.  I had already noticed that in 1998 the government funded $195,000 for research and now it is down to $125,000.......that was all I could really find in one of the reports.  This is big and making a commitment of this nature is so important.  There are over 2.1 million women affected by Breast Cancer.  This for a long time has needed a champion and Senator Clinton is it!!!  Yeah - go Hillary.

Also, side note, the AOL Straw Poll has had Hillary ahead with 250,000 to 300,000 votes...and by 20 points.  Hope her campaign starts mentioning that the CNN/MSNBC stuff is with only a 1000 or 3000 people but larger polls show her ahead and not on the banana peel as they may want people to think.

        Go Hillary!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • TREND

BO is always just thinking of himself. Do you hear him talking about specific people he has met on the campaign trail, their circumstances, and what he plans to do to fix these circumstances? No. He just keeps giving his ministerial speeches with no promise except "change". Well, there is good change and there is bad change. What type of change does he have? On the otherhand, Hillary gives us real solutions that will make a better change for America. There is absolutely no comparison between these two candidates. When is America going to wake up and see this!?! We need to get her more $$$$ NOW.
Please donate any amount and get others to do so.

    Empathy

Lets face it.  Hillary has the empathy, passion, and ideas to make a great president.  Now it is up to us to do our part -- donate, volunteer, call, blog or talk to your neighbors, family, and friends.  Every little bit counts.

Hillary will be our next president....

    • Breast Cancer Funding...

I have posted several blog posts, but mine almost never show up. It's probably my computer...it's a little goofy!!

I am so delighted to see Hillary making breast cancer research a priority!! I just hope the major networks will give it airtime inbetween their negative journalism...if they have time to fit this in.  I have emailed so many of the major networks to complain about their obvious subjectivity. I hope there's a backlash like they've never seen before.  Just like in NHampshire....I saw one woman interviewed, and she said Hillary was the only candidate walking through the snow to ask for votes. She's working her heart out.

My mother was just recently diagnosed with breast cancer, my very good friend is also battling breast cancer, and another very good friend lost the battle to breast cancer two years ago. She was 47.

I'll have to make sure I watch Ellen this afternoon. This should be good publicity. Hillary always does well on the talk shows.  I know she's a little busy..:-), but I too, would like to see her on even more of them.

Hillary knows policy, Hillary has passion to see results to fruition, and Hillary will work her heart out!!

Thanks again, Hillary, for speaking out on the issue of breast cancer.

    mammograms

I am a female 44 years old on SS Disability, so my insurance is Medicare -- We really need Hillary on this issue: currently, Medicare and most other private health insurance companies pay for men's prostrate exams EVERY year, but only pay for women's mammograms and PAP smears every 3 years (it might be every 5 years for mammograms under a certain age). This is clear male-dominated bias in preventative medicine screenings. Early detection is KEY, and I believe Hillary will address these issues.

    by alys63 at 4/7/2008 11:22:49 AM

    • mammograms

I think this is because men rarely get exams anyway. it's really hard to get guys to go to the hospital. please lets not turn everything into a gender issue.

Hillary has already made a difference for so many making Breast Cancer screening more available.

I am a two-time survivor of Breast Cancer my first diagnosis was at age 37.  While I would love to see a cure in my lifetime it's more important to see a cure in my two beautiful Daughters lifetime.

Thank you Hillary for all you’ve done and continue to do.

I wish that the Democratic Party leaders will read this article.  So, in essence, they are asking the front-runner candidate to step down.

Hillary Clinton 1427 (No MI & FL)
Obama            1260 (No MI & FL)

    Unbelievable

I read and hear these beautifully thought our plans by our Hillary and cannot believe she has not wrapped up this nomination.  I have yet to comprehend why this amazing woman who has touched EVERY AMERICAN'S life in one way or another over the years can be compared to a junior senator whose plans to move us forward are less detailed and incomplete at best.  WAKE UP AMERICA!!!  Show the world you know how to elect a president who will actually do this country (and the rest of the world as a result) some good.

    breast cancer plan

This is outstanding visionary policy -- it addresses one of the very biggest health problems that women face in the US, and in a totally smart way that will get at the problem for women of all walks of life as efficiently as possible.  And it shows how a detailed awareness of women's realities and real caring about what life is like for women in the US is crucial to being able to come up with such a good policy plan.

Fantastic work Hillary!  Now everyone should get this out there, I can't imagine all the male tv commentators rushing to talk about breast cancer initiatives!!

She has proved to be the best candidate for the job, and one heck of an American at that!

This is really good news. This issue is very important and I consider that the candidates should be thinking in these issues about health. Hillary is a woman and she knows and worries about the rest of the people. Is very nice to have a person who support all these real issues that we have in our society. A lot of people can vote for her because this is a really important issue. God bless. Thanks Hillary and God bless you.

    Breast Cancer Funding...

I have been hoping Hillary would make this commitment a priority.  My mother just recently was diagnosed with breast cancer, a dear friend of mine is also battling this disease, and I lost a dear friend two years ago to the disease. She was just 47.

I, too, hope the mainstream media will air this, but, they may not be able to fit it in, afterall, they've got to unleash as much negative journalism as they can fit into a tight schedule.  Dear, what would voters do without their daily dose of Hillary bashing...The mainstream media must pray most voters won't do much research, because if they were to do so, Obama's shimmer turns to rust.

I know Hillary is working so hard to win this nomination. I am so impressed she can maintain this gruelling schedule. I remember in NHampshire a voter mentioned how hard Hillary was working...she went on to say, Hillary was the only candidate walking through the snow to shake hands with as many voters as possible.

Hillary knows policy...Hillary has passion to see commitments to fruition, and Hillary will work her heart out.

Isn't it amazing how the media is able to make labels stick, such as divisive. Obama calls himself the unifier, but according to Cokie Roberts and others, Obama did very little working across party lines while in the US Senate, but, she goes on to say, Hillary demonstrated this ability many times.

    Good Luck Hillary!!!

1 in 8 lifetime risk for Breast Cancer

The numbers are astonishing - an American woman has a one in eight chance of developing breast cancer in her lifetime. These numbers require a Call to Action Plan that Senator Clinton has outlined above. Universal health care that she has called for will go a long way to ensure that women are diagnosed and treated early on when it is currently curable. Further research is needed to develop newer therapies to treat more advanced cases that still evade cure. As a physician I am proud to have Senator Clinton working for us to improve the quality of care we can offer to our patients. We must work harder to bring her efforts to the Oval Office as president of the United States.

Hillary, Now is the time to reach into your heart

We as supporters of your causes and campaign have been through this primary season roller coaster with you. We have followed the mis-steps, the amazing moments and the trying ones.

I want to see you make it to the W.H. Sen. Clinton, and as many emails as I have received asking me to reach down within my heart and contribute I am asking you to do the same.

I may not be a professional campaign organizer but I believe I have a grasp on the current political temperament.

THE PEOPLE WANT TO SEE THE REAL YOU. Forget about everything else, just talk about the ISSUES. Keep driving home with your solutions.

Let's face it you are up against a media darling-no one wants to hear negative things about him. So now is the time to rise above it and let your star shine bright.

Perhaps you can step a littel further from your comfort zone to inspire? Maybe you can reach someone that may not have heard your message?

I believe in you Sen. Clinton, many of us do, so please just be yourself and show how much you care.

    • Well said, Deirdre...

Hillary needs to be herself and present her solutions to as many audiences as she can.  The ones
who hear her will stand for her.

    MASS EMAIL ON APRIL 11

Someone had suggested that those of us who are unable to attend the April ll rally might send mass emails to the various media outlets simultaneously at that time.  What ever came of that?  Did anyone follow up on it? I think it would be a great idea. Could several of us develop lists of email contacts that everyone could use?  I assume the rally time is 8:00 a.m. EASTERN time, right?  We could all email at the equivalent time in our zones, although I realize that would be really early on the West Coast! I'll put together some email contacts to post. Anyone else want to volunteer?

Can't wait to get home to watch Hillary on Ellen

I have set the TIVO and can't wait to get home to watch Hillary. From all the coments I know it will be great and I think that it will a big boost to the campaign. I continue to be disheartened by the media. Why is everything so negative. She deserves the best and has had to fight every step. We will continue our diligent service to Hillary and she will win in Nivember. I checked out the Rasmussen report. That is totally amazing and a good foreground for the super delegates. That is the facts that need to be shown to the public. This says fervently that BO wil not win the big states. What more do they need to see. We will continu our fight.

Hillary you are the best. With you in Ohio all the way!

    God Bless our Hillary family!
    Keep up the good work!
